Dear All

Hindu's find cause to celebrate this festival for different reasons:

In North India, Dipavali celebrates the return of the Rama, King of Ayodhya, his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana to Koshala from a war in which he killed the demon king Ravana. It is believed that the people lit oil lamps along the way to light their path in the darkness. In North India, the festival is held on the final day of the Vikram calendar. The following day, marks the beginning of the North Indian New Year, and is called Annakut.

In South India, it commemorates the killing of Narakasura, an evil demon, by Lord Krishna. In South India, Diwali does not coincide with the beginning of a new year as South Indians follow a different calendar, the Shalivahana calendar.

In Bhavishyottara and Bramhavaivarta Purana, Diwali is associated with Daitya king Bali, who is allowed to return to earth once a year.

The five day of Diwali

The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triodasi or Dhanwantari Triodasi also called Dhan Theras.

The second day of Diwali is called Narak Chaturdasi. It is the fourteenth lunar day (thithi) of the dark forthnight of the month of Kartik and the eve of Diwali. On this day Lord Krishna destroyed the demon Narakasur and made the world free from fear.

The third day of Diwali is the actual Diwali. This is the day when worship for Mother Lakshmi is performed.

On the fourth day of Diwali, Goverdhan Pooja is performed.

The fifth day of the diwali is called Bhratri Dooj. It is a day dedicated to sisters.

Happy & Safe Diwali to you & your family.
