RE: problem

RE: problem

Thanks Chris with all your help, (and all the others). At least with
someone looking over my shoulder the obvious can appear through the fog
of war. In this case 'one' of my variables was not initialized... which
a lot of other files and paths where based on.

I call a central script to set my oracle environment. oraenvset... (to
me it makes for easier upgrading -- only one place to change variables
for all scripts). This was a point of contention in my overall design
on when to call it. Before my parameter checking or after... remember I
wanted all mistakes to be mailed and if executing by hand to see and
displayt the usage mistakes. To be mailed I needed stuff to be 'exec'd
to the files so all variables had to be set... getting the picture

Well... moving everything around produced a
SCRIPT_DIR=$ORACLE_BASE/blah/...
Which when echoed produced /blah/... because ORACLE_BASE was not set.
Furthermore, all the other directories and files built directly or
indirectly on SCRIPT_DIR.

No wonder I had no output.

I solved it the simple way. I hard coded the SCRIPT_DIR, and that took
care of that, and I figure that was acceptable. All others could
remain dynamic and I could set my oracle environment wherever I wanted.
(The SID was a parameter).

In the fog of war, I'm not sure anymore what was really going on with
all my checking this or that and inconsistent resuts.

P.S. I still need to discover how to make cron change to GMT (like
when I log in) instead of EST as it is presently.

Haven't heard a peep out of Anthony. But his book arrived (nice job).

How's that cron job going Joel?

What?

Joel,
Have you seen or heard Molinaro ("you developer, you")? What about
Chris?

After I asked if it were Tommy that I hear, he sent a private message
saying 'Close...'

:) But I did hear him, we just don't understand.
