RMAN recovery of standby database

RMAN recovery of standby database

Okay, here's my 1st question ever on this list, and I think it's a
doozy.

Scenario: Recovering a large standby database from production using
INC0 and 1st INC1 backups, and a backup controlfile from today.

Scp'ing the backups across a WAN..........sloooow. It
takes 10ish hours to complete for the INC0 alone.

My plan is to just recover the standby database using
the INC0 and INC1 backups (ignoring today's INC1

backup that is occurring during the recovery
process) and then apply all the archive logs up to the current time.

Issue: Towards the end of the RMAN recovery, it failed because it
expected today's INC1 backup files as well.

Question: How does RMAN know that another backup just happened?
