Yeah I hear you. I've been sweet talking the SA here to explain to me how
to "cross-mount" the box that has the DVD HW. He says he's done it in the
past but will have to get back to me on the actual commands.
Let me know if you are successfull.
Thanks
Jef

Subject: RE: Oracle 10g Install - Most Current Version
I'm trying to load by NFS mounting over to another machine that has a DVD
and am having poor results (the installer keeps stumbling over reading some
files). Oracle has been working on it for a week. Looks like I may have to
sping for a DVD reader on my target server. I understand why they want to
go to DVD format, but many of us are not there yet...

My point is that its hard enough to keep up with all the latest SW updates
and all the headaches while trying to get other products to work with the
new SW (The CM nightmare). Now you also have to ensure that the Server HW
has a DVD readable drive. Many "boxes" now have DVD drive by default but I
can tell you that one of my older SOLARIS boxes at home (and many at work
[Government contract] don't) and now I'm forced to upgrade my older box
simply because one of my "choices" has just gone away. At work I don't care
( OK I care alittle bit) because the SA now have to address this issue.
I had no problems install Oracle when it was on multiple disks.

Yes, that's true. One of the "advantages" of 10gr2 is that it all fits
on one disc - which happens to be a DVD (since it's too big to fit on a
CD).

Be advised , since this was a suprise to me.
When I got the Oracle10.2 "CD PACK" , the Oracle DB and the Oracle 10.2 Grig
Control where all on DVD's.
When I got the Oracle 10.1 "CD PACK", sometime last year, I got CDROMS and
an additional copy on DVD all in the "CD PACK".

Yes, you should be able to download 10gr2 from otn. Also, assuming you
purchased support & have a MetaLink account, you can request the CP pack
to be sent to you. Use a TAR/SR to do this.

We purchased Oracle 10g approximately 16 months ago, but for various
reasons, have not upgraded from 8i yet, but am planning on this in the
near future.
Rather the load from the CD packs I received and applying all the
relevant patches, does Oracle provide the latest install version on the
net?
Thanks all!
