We're looking at the same problems. We can get everything in version
control, but using it once it's there is a the real problem.
Working on older versions (for support issues) in the same database
where new development is occurring can be quite a pain.
We have packages that assume a certain schema structure, so we can't
just install the different version in a different schema.
If only we could let developers install their own small database.....
(too bad the licensing fees are so high)

Subject: Source Control for DB objects...
Guys,
We are a Cobol+Java+Oracle+many-third-party-tools shop trying to
implement source control using open source CVS. We have done that for
Java and Cobol source. However, we have not been able to find a way to
do that for database objects (packages, procedures and functions, types
etc.). Anybody has experience in doing that?
Thanks in anticipation.
-Shiv.
