Thanks Norman and Harro for your replies off list.

I must be missing something here - sorry.

We have been given one Oracle install disc - Oracle 9.2.0.5 Runtime install. When I run this I get three options.
1) Install (or upgrade to) Oracle 9.2.0.5
2) Create Oracle Instance
3) Create Oracle ODBC DSN

Presumably I don't have the Client Install kit's you guys are taking about? If not I'll go back to our supplier for more info

Pat

Subject: SQLPlus Install

Hi All,

Really naïve question for you guys from a newbie.

One of our 3rd party tools uses Oracle 9.2 runtime as opposed to a full Oracle installation. I want to install SQLPlus on one of our machines here - is there any way to install the SQLPlus tool without doing a full install of the runtime engine and creating a new instance?

I come from a heavy MSSQL background and I can just install the management tools on a client machine without having to install the full MSSQL engine. Does Oracle have a similar way to install the management tools like this?

Any help greatly appreciated from a confused guy.

Thanks
Pat
