Sometimes, when I am being a LazyDBA, and I don't feel like searching for the best answer, I use the connect string after the userid/password and that works.

exp system/[Email address protected] full=y direct=y file=full.dmp log=full.log consistent=y

you could add the buffer and recordlength parameters, if you want.

Subject: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

I have upgraded from Oracle 9.2.0.3 to Oracle 10.2.0.1 and I am trying to export data remotely from another server in order to import it in my 10.2.0.1 database. This is the error I get:
EXP-00056: ORACLE error 12560 encountered
ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

I can successfully connect through sqlplus to the same server using the same user .
Any suggestions???
Thanks
