Oracle 10.2 alert log

Hi Guys,
I see the following in the alert log every time Oracle (on AIX) is
started.

...
Completed: ALTER DATABASE OPEN
Wed May 31 08:30:47 2006
db_recovery_file_dest_size of 20480 MB is 0.98% used. This is a
user-specified limit on the amount of space that will be used by this
database for recovery-related files, and does not reflect the amount of
space available in the underlying filesystem or ASM diskgroup.

Shutting down archive processes
Wed May 31 08:36:41 2006
ARCH shutting down
ARC2: Archival stopped
...

Why does it show ARCH shutting down messages? Archive process is still
there and archive logs are being created regularly.

Any explanation?

Thanks!
-Shiv.
