You might also want to try SQL*Copy (if it is available in V6) or use DB links from 6 to 8.

Generally an export .dmp file taken by a "higher/newer" version of the
database cannot be read by an earlier version of imp. So I would expect
a dmp file create by version 8 cannot be read by version 6 import.
However, It would be worth trying to see if the Version 6 exp utility
can read the 8 database.
