If you use OEM (or similar) - you can schedule a job to perform:

LIST ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE - 7'; DELETE ARCHIVELOG UNTIL TIME
'SYSDATE - 7';

(will keep 7 days worth of logs on the server for immediate access)
