FW: VMWare - Oracle Database on Windows

I have heard that there are performance issues, but do you have anything
concrete to back that up? From experience, unfortunately I see the
performance issues, but others think by just tweaking parameters, etc,
we can get the performance we had again. So something to back up the
poor performance would be helpful.
Thanks for your comments!

We looked at Oracle on VMWare and decided against it for performance and

support issues. If you can pursue moving the database off of the virtual

server then I recommend you do so, especially for production.

Cheers,
Ian.

Has anybody else had experience moving an Oracle 9i database to a
virtual server? We moved from a Windows 2k HP server to a Virtual
Server running Windows 2k and the same configuration as we had before.
But our batch jobs are running much slower (from 65 min - 174 minutes).
Users have complained about slower responses also. If you look at the
VMWare console, it doesn't appear that we are using much of our memory
or CPU. My boss has talked with a couple of other Oracle DBAs and they
recommend never using virtual servers for a production Oracle database.
Would like to hear others experiences using virtual servers.
