Yes,

I'm going to speak off the top of my head, and disclaim up front some
may not be exactly correct.

Assuming you are speaking of user defined backup (tblsp begin, end
backup), datafiles are continued to be updated by DBWR as normal.
There are pointers marking when the backup state began. I believe these
poinsters are in the redo logs. then when you are done and issue the
alter tblsp end backup the pointers are moved forward to present
indicating back in business. This is why the database does not take
such a big hit. So while the copy is going on, the datafiles represent
a consistent state.

Well, I'd look it up if I wanted to jog my memory exactly, but it is you
question, and you have that option as well.
