RE: ARCHIVELOG on RAC Database

Hi,
It also depends on how fast the redologs are switching and thereby
archivelogs created.
If you have extra storage space try this solution,
1. Create a cronjob script to compress the archive logs in the archive
destination and move it to a secondary directory every one hour (or
depending upon the rate of producing archived logs) for each day.
2. Put this secondary directory name also into your filesystem backup job.
3. Depending on your business requirement you can keep the relocated
compressed archived logs for a week or so and delete the older ones more
than a week.

This way the original archive destination will not be filling up unless
something drastic with the secondary directory space. I have been doing
very much successful in the above solution for years together.

Subject: ARCHIVELOG on RAC Database

Dear All

I'm using Oracle 10g R2 RAC, my Database sits on storage device using raw
devices, the Database is configured with ARCHIVELOG mode.
1. Now if I'm not using RMAN, how can I delete the archive files?
2. If they don't get deleted, will the size of the archive files keeps
increasing until it fills up the entire storage.

Regards
