I personally feel that the very best DBAs were once developers. In my
shop, the developers are our customers, and having come up in IT as a
developer, I completely understand all of the challenges and
frustrations they can face on a daily basis. Many times, changes that
the DBAs make in the database can adversely affect the development team,
and many DBAs I have worked with in the past don't have much sympathy
when this happens. They're too busy trying to cover their back-sides if
something they have touched has caused unforeseen harm to the system.
My advice is to stick with it, learn as much as you can about database
administration, but don't forget your roots.

Oracle software, create and drop databases, and practice doing backups
and restores using RMAN and your own scripts. Visit the oracle website.
If you can afford it, take some oracle DBA courses! Also, purchasing a
few good books will also help! There, you go! Get busy! Go for it!
