Hi
1. Is 10.2 RAC certified against Solaris 10?
Yes. Check metalink certification matrix.
2. We are planning to install / use Sun Cluster? In this case is CRS
necessary?
Why use Sun Cluster when you have crs?
3. We have still not decided on storage. RAW vs. ASM vs. CFS? Do we need
CRS if we are planning to use RAW volumes?
If you want performance I can recommend using ASM with external
mirroring. This is very fast and not least very performant.
4. Does anybody have experiences with Solaris 10 containers / global
zones etc and how they fare?
Nope.
5. Which is the best performing combination for a 7 TB data store /
online access database?
I have a 4 node rac on Solaris 10 with ASM in production. Just make
sure your interconnect is fast enough.
6. Is ASM stable and what is the level of acceptability in production
usage?
I'm not sure what you mean.
Måns

Subject: RAC upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2
Dear forum members,
We are planning to do a RAC upgrade from a 2-node 9.2.0.6 to 4-node 10.2
system. I have a few questions in this regard:
1. Is 10.2 RAC certified against Solaris 10?
2. We are planning to install / use Sun Cluster? In this case is CRS
necessary?
3. We have still not decided on storage. RAW vs. ASM vs. CFS? Do we need
CRS if we are planning to use RAW volumes?
4. Does anybody have experiences with Solaris 10 containers / global
zones etc and how they fare?
5. Which is the best performing combination for a 7 TB data store /
online access database?
6. Is ASM stable and what is the level of acceptability in production
usage?
Thank you. Appreciate any inputs from you.
Nizar.
