Why is the multiblock_read_count 16K? This indicates to the optimizer the
number of database pages that will be read per IO operation when a scan is
being performed. This setting will bias queries into using full scans
rather
than indexes and could severely degrade real performance.
You should set probably this to 16 and NOT 16K.
Also you should look at setting system statistics (if you are running on
9i
or 10G) as this will set some real values from your running system that
the
optimizer can use for query plans.

Yes . DB_BLOCK_SIZE is 8k and the value for parameter
DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT is 16k, erroneously I have mentioned the
size as mb. And, on quering the view GV$CACHE_TRANSFER there are a couple
of objects with xnc more than 1500. Is it advisible to increase the
DB_FILE_MULTIBLOCK_READ_COUNT or is any other action warranted.
