Not much in the way of a script, more in the configuration.
I have set up a Large Pool (128 megs) to avoid hitting the Shared Pool
hard when I am running the backup.
I use multiple (4) channels (all pointing to locations on a SAN) with
rate limitations (256 K) and piecesize limitations (256 M) on each.
I tweeked things over several months because the end-users were
complaining about the slowness of the system when the backups kicked
off, and the backups taking several (4-5) hours.
I am actually backing up TWO (different sizes and contents) databases
and maintaining the info in TWO repositories (same information, stored
in two locations) in 57 minutes (57.8 minutes last night). One of the
databases is a small one (about 3 gigs total) that is required for
diasater recovery of the larger database.
We have practiced a bare metal restore using these backups, and it works
fine.
My resource for tweeking RMAN is Oracle9i RMAN Backup & Recovery
(Configure and Use Oracle Recovery Manager) by Robert G. Freeman and
Matthew Hart. Robert Freeman posts / has posted on this forum.

Subject: RE: How long will RMAN take to backup 150GB
Walter,
You say you are backing up 320gig in 57 minutes and using 2
repositories.
We are in the process of setting up RMAN at our facility. Can you share
your scripts and what configuration you did to make your 320gig database
backup in 57 minutes compared to another email that estimated 3 hours
for 150gig?
Have a Blessed day,

I am backing up > 320 gigs and the archivelogs to disk, cleaning up the
old backup files and archivelog files, and synching to two separate
catalog repositories (Disaster Recovery). Running at slack time
(production up and available, few accesses at this time of day) it takes
57 minutes.

Subject: How long will RMAN take to backup 150GB
Can anyone give me an estimate of how long it would take for RMAN to
backup 150GB to disk.
I know it will vary by device type, but I am just looking for a number
in the "ball park". Just looking for anyone's experience.
i.e. 2 hours, 10 hours, 20 hours?
Thanks,
