I do not think there will ever be a 'best' way of doing backups in
anyone's book. What I do is come up with a likely scenario and adapt a
backup solution that fits what I need...
for example... You specified a single database instance under LINUX on
Intel platform.
1. How much money do you have to invest in a backup solution?
2. When do you need it done?
3. How long do you need the backups?
4. Any security issues (sensitive data or location)?
5. Do you want to automate the backups?
6. Do you need off-site storage for your backups?
7. How many people will be held responsible for the backups?
and more questions like these should be considered...
Based on your responses to questions like these, a suitable backup
solution can be developed and implemented.

Subject: Linux / Oracle backup solutions
All, Based on experiences, what is the best backup solution for
databases running on Linux ? RMAN combined with Storix OS tape backup,
etc. ....
Any best recommendations on what is the simplest or best solutions? This
is a single db running on a Dell linux intel server.
Thanks for the input.
