RE: Recover Hotbackup of database not in archivelog mode.

RE: Recover Hotbackup of database not in archivelog mode.

Here comes the nice guy approach again.... geesh!

Explain (to me in not the group) what you call a hot backup?
It may be that you are getting a cold backup, which is to say that you
shut down the database and you backup program gets all the system files.

If that's the case, the steps are pretty straight forward...

1 - shutdown the database (assuming there is only one)
2 - restore the entire oracle folder from 8/1 - overwrite all
(since you are new to this, I'm having you do more than is necessary)

3 - bounce the server (restart)

It should come up as it was on 8/1

(I do this weekly even though I have hot backups....)

Once it does, PLEASE put that thing in archive mode. We can discuss hot
backups versus cold after you get to this point.

Hi Ungaro,

You are saying database is not in archive mode. Then how come you have a
hot
backup.
Thats impossible.
Your backup set is useless if the database is not in noarchive mode.

I have a hotbackup of a database that I need to recover. The database
was
not in archivelog mode, and I need to recover a backup copy from 8/1.
It's
now 8/6, so redo logs will not be an option. Forgive my lack of
specificity,
I'm rather new to this, and am in a sticky situation. Any information
that
is required to help with this, please ask and I will provide. Thanks in
advance for any assistance that can be provided.

Matt
