There could be permission changes at OS level... it this checked?

Hi,
I need help on external tables.
I have created external table 1 month back and it was working that time.
after long time I tried using that table today and it was throwing an
error.
even the file is not changed and the logical directory also available.
logical directory was created with the same userid.
