Unable to connect / as sysdba

Unable to connect / as sysdba

Hello,

We have a 9.2.0.7 database running on Windows 2003 SP1.

A couple of months ago, we were getting random "ORA-12637 packet
received failed" errors when connecting to the database from a client.
The solution to this, according to Oracle, was to remove the
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NTS) line from our sqlnet.ora file. This
did solve the problem.

Today, though, we are trying to implement backups through Grid Control,
which is trying to login using "/ as sysdba". This is failing, I
believe, because that line was removed, which shut off NT
authentication. I'm getting that idea from this guy:

Has anyone run across this before? Any ideas on how to get around it?
The best solution would obviously not cause the first error to start
reoccurring.

The oracle user is a local admin in the ORA_DBA group.
