Check you your datafiles, controlfile, logfiles location.
Set ORACLE_SID
On mistake you did in the beginning only that you copied database files
when database was up and running. You can do that but need to bring
tablespace in backup mode.
Since you are new to oracle I suggest you shutdown the source database
copy all the files and so on.
Keep database up and running and creating clone is tricky.

Aijaz

Probably best to invest in some good manuals or spend some time going
through Metalink mate - apart from anything else I'd say you need to
spend time on researching backup and recovery as well as cloning :) Oh
and welcome to the wonderful world of Oracle :D Si

Hi Suresh,
Thanks a lot for the information.
I'm attempting to clone the database to a different name in the same
server.
Could you please shed some light on this.
Regards,
Murali
