Thats not the same as an upgrade though.
Generally I just use the DBUA (Database Upgrade Assistant)
Ao I would do the upgrade from 8.17 to 9.2.04 or above.
Then do the upgrade from 9.2.0.4 to 10.2
Its quite simple and straightforward.
