RE: More than one database in oracle ??

I go with what Brian has suggested, one database - one instance - allows
multiple sessions such that many users could connect to the same
database for workaround.

As far as I can see you are confused about the terms database, instance
and session. You may also need to understand the term schema.

This is a LazyDBA forum, and I would respectfully suggest a prerequisite
to understanding its contents is that you have a Lazy DBA - any other
type will probably do though ;) . Without one, your learning curve will
be very steep indeed.

You almost certainly need just one database server, one database and one
instance (unlikely that you need multi-instance RAC for development).
Each developer may start one or many sessions from his/her own desktop.
Whether each developer needs a separate schema, or many work in the same
schema on the same schema objects depends on what and how you are
developing.

Many of us on the forum run databases with several thousand users
connected simultaneously. I suspect your "huge" is relative to your
experiences so far.

All,

We want to use oracle as back end for development environment.

We want a centralized location, where all the developers can have their
respective database. Now the problem is one oracle instance can connect
with only one database. We wants instances should be automatically start
when a developer wants to connect with one database. In future the no.
of developers could be increased by a huge no. also. So how and which
type of configuration will be suitable for this types of requirements.

Regards,
Rajesh
