RE: More than one database in oracle ??

RE: More than one database in oracle ??

Brian,

When I said "For, 200 to 300....." I mentioned about the limitation of
resources also in the context...
Now, please explain why it is "Simply not true"...?

This is just simply not true.

efficient solution.

Aside from managing them as you have suggested, imagine the horrors of
database upgrades, backups, defining separate sga/pga memory
allocations, cpu overheads for multiple (ie several hundred) databases
on the same server. Non-starter.

Rajesh,

If you are not running out of resources (memory/cpu) then upto 25/30
users, you can opt for a Dedicated Server architecture. For, 200 to 300
users, you must use Shared Server architecture.

Creating a separate database for each user is definately not an
efficient solution. How come you will be able to keep them in sync, if
the developers are working on the same project? It's possible but there
will be overheads.

Manash,

Thanks for the quick reply. Solution#1 is not applicable because
if we will be using only one database with multiple schemas, and if
there will be any issue at the database level, then all the developers
will suffer and could not continue the development work until the issue
is fixed.
So solution#2 is acceptable. But in that case, my concern was
that, if in future no. of developers increased say 200 to 300, then
creating a separate database for each developer will be an efficient
solution or not.

Regards,
Rajesh
