Hohoho... its not mandatory to use OFA, it never was.
It does however help to make database administration easier... grouping
like tables/indexes together to avoid space wastage, etc, allowing you
to organize the system better into disk groups so that backups and
restores can actually work (i.e. if your redo logs are in the same
directory as your datafiles and you restore the directory, you have just
blatted the current redo logs, the most important files, and your
recovery will likely fail... oops wheres the door...).
Its mostly common sense anyway, so why wouldn't you follow the OFA?
Ah Friday... its one more day closer to next Monday. Prozac anyone?
