No you do not Have to - but it sure makes life easier if you do.

If you have many systems and build the systems following a
pre-determined structure - it makes standardizing maintenance/monitoring
scripts easier, moving structures between systems easier, having junior
dba's setting up new systems following the standard much easier and
leads to fewer surprises when something should go wrong in the weeee
hours of the night (god forbid).
