I think more people post on a Friday in search of the elusive coke :)

Ever notice how an email to the list on a Friday always takes longer to
get
back to you? I think the mailer daemon can't handle the Friday
question....
Not enough of the "coke", too many of the "Red Stripe". :)

Hey Matt Ungaro,
ASM? Hmmmmmmmmmm! "One COKE" for you! hehe.
Starting with Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2), Oracle Clusterware
should
be installed in a separate Oracle Clusterware home directory.
This is a change to the Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA) rules. You
should
not install Oracle Clusterware in a release-specific Oracle home mount
point,
typically /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0, as succeeding versions of
Oracle
Clusterware will overwrite the Oracle Clusterware installation in the
same
path. Also, If Oracle Clusterware 10g Release 2
(10.2) detects an existing Oracle Cluster Ready Services installation,
then
it overwrites the existing installation in the same path.

It depends! Now-a-days the big deciding factor, I think, is what
filesystem
you use. If you go with ASM, then placement of log files, control files,
archivelogs, and data files, are all kinda transparent, so OFA isn't
really
applicable.
Now if you are using a traditional filesystem, OFA is still applicable,
and
just good 'ol best practice.
However I can't stand the designations of /u01, /u02, etc, etc. It's
very
non-descript.
Matt

To All,
It's Fridayyyyyyyy! Partyyyyyyyyyy! Hehe. Now so fast! It's test
time!
Hehe. Can you win "the COKE"? hehe.
Question: Now that we are using SANs, etc, there is no longer a need
to
continue to use the Oracle Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA)
guidelines.
True or False. Please provide proof! Hehe.
