It depends! Now-a-days the big deciding factor, I think, is what
filesystem
you use. If you go with ASM, then placement of log files, control files,
archivelogs, and data files, are all kinda transparent, so OFA isn't
really
applicable.
Now if you are using a traditional filesystem, OFA is still applicable,
and
just good 'ol best practice.
However I can't stand the designations of /u01, /u02, etc, etc. It's
very
non-descript.
