Sorry, I think you do. As you need to startup mount, you need to shutdown
first. Unless I've missed something pretty fundamental.

I don't think that ASM makes any difference for turning archivelog mode
off or on. You need to shut the instance down (the main instance, not
the ASM instance) then do "startup mount", then "alter database
noarchivelog", then shutdown, then a normal startup.
