You shouldn't need the compiler for just support of the install/db itself...

Hello all
We have a new AIX 6 host and I was asked to install Oracle 10gR2 on it. But
our System Administrator is having difficulty locating the C++ Compiler for
AIX 6.
As far as I'm aware, the compiler is required - not just the runtime
libraries, correct?
Does anyone know where we can get a C++ Compiler that works on AIX 6 and
will suffice for Oracle install at no cost? It will take too long to go
through the red tape to purchase the Native IBM C++ compiler.
I've done a little searching myself and see that gcc is supposed to work
also but there appears to be a problem with gcc on AIX 6 - not supported?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
