RE: Computer name/IP

RE: Computer name/IP

One subnet can see the server via it's hostname...ie. there's a DNS entry for it or it's listed in their hostfile. The other subnet can't see the server by it's ip but not it's hostname. That would indicate that they either 'can't see the DNS server' or there is no entry in their hosts file. I'd bet on entry in host file.

slap this in each of the offending client hostfile

server ip hostname any alias you like

ex:

127.0.0.1 jumanji bad_board_game_and_movie

Subject: Computer name/IP

Guys,
I have this application server setup.
I sent out the link to everyone:http://ComputerName/Folder/
Half of the group could reach it but the other half could not.
When the other half tried IP instead of name, it worked fine.

Any idea on this?

I also discovered of the ones that can reach it, they were on the same
ip range.
ex Server
XXX.YY.ZZZ.AAA
People who can reach it:
XXX.YY.ZZZ.BBB
People who cannot: (Again they can reach it by IP; just not by name)
XXX.YY.XXZ.BBB.

Thanks
