Normally export dump files are not intended to be edited or used by any
utility other than Oracle import. (One exception is some rather
expensive software that BMC used to offer, but I've never used that.)
Can you get the person (or organization?) that created the export file
to run export again on that server, but this time with: "rows=N" and
"indexfile=[a filename]"? The would give you an ASCII text file with
the "create tablespace...", "create table...", "create index..." and
"create constraint..." commands that you could easily edit, then run
manually before running import to load the data.

Subject: EDITING LARGE BINARY FILES
Dear Lazy DBA's
I have this large file 140megs that is an Oracle export file on UNIX.
We would like to import it into another table, that is a duplicate-
however the statements at the beginning of the file need to be
altered. If I am not mistaken this is a binary file/text-
vi editor will not open it because it states that the line is too long!
I have tried to FTP to my windoze box in both ASCII and Binary
so That I could use Ultra Edit , but for some reason only a portion of
the file
gets transffered.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank You
Jim T
