Could be it's altered the access path for the better.
Trace the query with and without the 1=1 and check the difference (if any).
It could also be that the data you were querying was in the buffer cache for
you 1=1 query, so would be much quicker.

I use such a condition from time to time but never for performance
reasons.
It's just a fine way to add the relevant conditions dynamically.
