Password file vs O/S authentication

Password file vs O/S authentication

Hi,

I am on NT/8.1.7. I am creating a test database.

I use the ORADIM utility to create the service and also change the INTERNAL
password.

ORADIM -new -sid test -intpwd xxx -startmode auto -pfile
c:\....\inittest.ora.

When I issue this command, a file named pwdtest gets created. Is that what
is called 'password file' authentication when I login
to the DB as INTERNAL ? If I create another user, does that mean the
information regarding that new user will be added to that
password file ?

What is O/S authetication and when and how can I use this on NT ? I was
reading through the manual and got 100% confused
over these two issues.

thanks
Santi
