Hi Juliette,
Ensure that you're pointing at the 8.1.7 environment and then type
adapters
at the Unix prompt.
What do you get listed for the Net8 protocols ?

All,
I have installed 8.1.7 in a separate Oracle Home on our AIX 4.3.3 server,
which already has Oracle 8.1.6 installed.
I made sure that the 8.1.6 listener was not running during the minimal
installation of Oracle8i Enterprise Edition.
TNS_ADMIN, ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE were all pointing to the correct new
locations prior to and during the installation process.
The default listener of "listener" on port 1521 for the 8.1.7 environment
does not start.
We have tried relinking, deinstalling NET8, reinstalling NET8, deinstalling
817, reinstalling 817 to no avail.
I have also tried this on 8.1.7.1.0.
We have also tried copying the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora from the 816 to
817 TNS_ADMIN directory.
The following is the result of lsnrctl start in the 816 environment which
works:

Has anyone else experienced and got over the same problem?
