You said you had a .tar file on CD. As far as I know...you cannot install
from a .tar file. You'll most likely need to untar it to a directory on your
Linux box.
To mount it...as root (unless you gave users permission to mount the CD or
you don't have automount running).
mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
Something like the above should work....
