The current Patchset running for 8.1.7.3
U can request this by opening a iTar with oracle.
And it is always better to be running on the latest Patch sets.

Subject: Best 8.1.7 Patch for NT/2000?
Folks,
I was just wondering if you had opinions on which is the best patchset
for an 8.1.7.0.0 db on NT and 2000.
I am looking at 8.1.7.2.1.
My database works fine at 8.1.7.0.0.
But as our application development increases and gets more complex under
Oracle then I'd like to avoid "gotchas" that could have been resolved
with a patch.
I am looking 6 to 12 months down the line and don't want to have to
patch a lot of customer live db's if I can patch them upon
installation/creation.
Much appreciated.
Cheers,
Ray.
