Database creation error : redhat 6.1 running Oracle 8.1.7

Hi,

I am trying to run the create database command on redhat 6.1 running 8.1.7
and am getting the following error. The oracle document says the following
about the error. I could start the instance, but my 'create database'
statement is failing. What should I be looking for in order to correct this
problem ?

The installer was able to create the 'ORCL' instance. I am not using
'dbassist', using manual way of creating database.

thanks
Santi
