RE: Killed session

RE: Killed session

If it's Unix you may need to kill the Unix side of the job. Look for
something like:
(DESCRIPTION=(LOCAL=no)(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=BEQ)))

This happens to us all of the time where the Unix job won't let go.

Outside tools (non Unix side tools) like TOAD, C programs, SAS and such
latch on to Oracle and sometimes just won't let go. This will also hang a
shutdown ... we've figured out on our system that if we kill these pesky
connections that the database can be shutdown immediate instead of abort.

I've also heard that on some systems forcing a logswitch will also help them
clear. This is not the case on my system but it's worth a try.

Subject: Killed session

Hi,

I killed a session using alter system kill session(sid, serial#).
But the session is still visible under v$session with status 'killed'.
How to get rid of this killed session ?

thanks
Santi
