Install a new oracle instance (minimum instance, will be overwritten with
old one) with same name as instance you want to recover. Locate your oracle
admin directory on same harddrive as instance lies you want to recover (for
example hardrive D:, important is the harddrive letter). After creating the
instance, shut it down, and replace all files with your old instance files
(password file, init.ora, datafiles, controlfiles). Locate them on the same
drive letter as before. After that the instance should start.

Does he have a backup of the registry? You are going to need that.

Subject: Database Recovery. Challenging problem!
Hi Guys,
My database server machine (NT) doesn't boot due to virus attack. So, I
removed the hard disk and attached with some other machine. Now I'm able to
view all oracle folders and related files (control file, Data file, etc).
How to bring back the database to work? Do I have to recreate a new
database? I have no clue. Please advice.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
Regards
Anthony
