We moved some very large tables to partitioning.

Now, I didn't see the queries run, but on our BIG tables ( > 5 gig ) we got
great results ( 10 min. versus 30 sec. ) response time improvements. On
small tables the improvement was neglibable.

Moving tables is tedious. I suggest you look at the docs. They have a good
pro/con discussion on it.

Has any one implemented partitiong in your databases and how
cumbersome it is.

We are planning to either use partioning or use a copy of existing tables
to archive the status changes on our data.
