RE: determinie contents of log files

RE: determinie contents of log files

John,

Prior to 8i log mining was only provided by third oarty companies not
Oracle. If you are trying to establish what goes on in the future, I
recommend switching auditing on for the database tables. You will not be
able to go backwards to last night.

Other thing to bear in mind is backups, if running non RMAN hot backups redo
activity can vastly increase if changes being made to tablespace when in
backup mode. In backup mode whole block is written to redo log not just
chenged rows, this can be a lot of data in large block sizes....

Cheers

Ian

So I know that I cannot read the logs as are. Any other suggestions to
focus in on the cause?

Running 7.3.4 and would like to look into log files and see what is there.

We have a collection database where all persons have select only, the
collection programs have write access. We are not able to determine that
any of these applications were misbehaving, but my log switches went from
about once an hour to every few minutes during a period last night.

Do I have any options to help me investigate what might have happened?

Thanks

John Joehnk
