I believe this is supported, but there are restrictions. If you have access
to metalink, do a search for import version compatibility and you will find
a long document that provides detailed instructions on doing this.

Subject: export/import compatibility
Hi all,
I'm trying to export an 8.1.7 database on an AIX machine and import it into
an Oracle 8.0.x database on NT. I'm having some troubles. Is this possible
to do in this scenario?
