Hi Vijay & Listers,
I have a request for advice, since you are working with all the Oracle
RDBMS versions.
I recently moved our production database from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7 R3.
Our Oracle Developer clients are still running the 8.0.5 Oracle Client
Software. I used the same databse name and listener port number when
I recreated the database so I didn't have to make any configuration
changes on the clients.
I'm considering moving to 9i, which supports Locally Managed
Tablespaces. I know that 8i supports LMT as well. From what I've read in 9i
all tablespaces are Locally Managed by default.
1.) Can existing Oracle 8.0.5 clients connect to the Oracle 9i database
as long as the listener port number and Service_Name is the same?
2.) What is the most efficient and safest option for moving an 8i
database to 9i?
3.) What % increase in datafile size is required if I recreate the
existing 8i database in 9i and import the data?
4.) What are your experiences in moving from 8i to 9i?
Thanks in advance for your time!
Regards,
Denmark W.
