Well, nice to finally be back on the air...haven't been able to post
in about 2 weeks!!
I think you're referring to the problems I was haveing getting 8i client
ware to install on my Linux RH 7.1 box....I had run it successfully in the
past, but, it wouldn't work now.
Well, I found I could run the latest 9i installer no problem, so, what
I did, was run the 9i install from another machine I had mapped to, and then
when it asked for the product.jar file...I pointed it to the 8i CD in my
local drive...and it installed just fine...
At one point though, it was having trouble linking...I followed the work
around for this:
-------------------
1. When you get errors from OUI installer, open a window, and cd to the Oracle
Home installation target location on your harddrive.
2. Use editor to modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file, to remove"-z defs"
from it(near bottom: library section).
(just search for it...it is part of some other command...I deleted the text
and left the two double quotes that enclosed this line.
3. Then run this script $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh to create Oracle libraries.
4. Go back to OUI error window,
and click on 'retry' bottom to continue.
---------------------
However, this didn't quite work...so, I went and looked, and the file
libclntsh.so was doing a soft link to libclntsh.so.9.0...which wasn't
there...so, I made it point to libclntsh.so -> libclntsh.so.8.0
and then hit continue...and it started back up again. The installer hung
on the part where it tried to help install network (tnsnames) stuff, but,
I just killed this and did it by hand...and voila!! It all worked like
a charm.
So, it was a kludge...but, a working kludge..
Thanks for asking, and good to be back on the air here...
