Re: Oracle 9i Data Guard Question...Contd.

Thanks ANkur & others....Here're my concerns now.

Issue#1...My standby setting is indeed optional( by
default) 'cuz I use LGWR ASYNC NO AFFIRM for
log_archive_dest_2. In this case, I don't understand
why primary failed when I opened standby in managed
recovery mode after standby crashed. FYI, there was an
archive log gap between standby & primary (the
archivelogs making that gap were backed up by rman &
deleted from primary. Is this the reason why primary
failed?). Local archiveing on primary is set to
mandatory.

Issue#2: There are 2 cronjobs that the customer is
running on the primary database(9.0.1.3). These
cronjobs access some materialized views & create row
level locks on the tables. This causes locks(not sure
of deadlocks) due to which other processe hang. WHen I
try to kill these hanging oracle sessions, it marks it
for killing but doesn't kill it( looks like undo
segments ain't table to undo or are very slow)..When I
look for this process on OS side, it doesn't exist. So
the only alternative for me is to do a shutdown abort(
'cuz shutdown immidiate takes forever)...When I
startup up the primary, its comes up fine & things
start to roll thru' fine. THis has happened twice in 2
days now.( whenever the cusotmer runs these cronjobs).
I've asked them to remove these crons for now.

What is all this happeneing? Is this a bug? Where can
I find a similar postinng/article? Is there any white
paper for this? Please advise.

Thanks a lot in advance!
