No pros I can think of, except to free up some disk space...(are you
compressing *.arc?)
cons: database will freeze if you have a problem with your tape drive
and can't archive...I've always had more tape-related backup problems
than disk.

Subject: ARCHMON-ARCHIVING TO TAPE
Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on Solaris 8
Hi Gurus,
Many of you might have an experience with "archmon" to
archive log files directly to tape.
Presently we are archiving to disk and then copying
them to tape as a backup.
Now there is a discussion in our site to use "archmon"
instead of the present approach. What are the pro's
and con's?.
Any comments are welcome.
TIA,
Murali
