RE: Defrag

RE: Defrag

Ganesh,
We run a third part app, a crappy third party app that has had serious
performance problems. One of their specifications for their app is to
defrag (export and import) whenever there are more than two extents. So
back to my original question, is the amount oftime it took for that
table normal considering the size and long data type?

You don't need to do that.

2 Extents is Normal. 100 Extents Is Normal ... 500 Extents is Normal.
1000
Extents --- Manageability goes down so start putting partitions.

HTH

Gurus,
I just did a defrag of all tables with more than 2 extents belonging to
a
certain schema. One of the tables took 8 hours to do the re-import of
the
table. It has 1.5 million records and one of the data types is long.
Does
this sound feasible?
