RE: oracle cold backup restore

I'd strongly suggest you take a copy of the Oracle Backup and Recovery
manual and read it. It also depends on which of your backups you want to use
to restore the database with. While the database can't be physically
restored using the imp/exp facilities, if this is the logical image of the
data you want to restore then the process is much different than if you use
a physical backup.

Subject: oracle cold backup restore

HI Gurus,

Our working environment is Oracle 8.1.7 on windows NT. The database is on
nonarchive mode since it doesn't have to be up and running 24/7. The db
size is about 30Gb.

Now three days a week I shutdown the database and backup all
file in the orant8/oradata/ files. Also I do a full export everyday.

I want to test the restore in another machine. What are the things I need to
prepare before doing such test.
Basically I want someone to direct me on this as I never done something like
this before.

Thank you so much!
